For our clients here at Musictoday, the year 2019 was many things – a year of success, new singles, no. 1 albums, & record-breaking sales. It turns out that 2019 was also the year of the box set. Last year we had the privilege of supporting the release of an amazing & eclectic selection of comprehensive, high-quality multi-media box sets. From newly mastered editions of already beloved albums, to previously unreleased material, to epic all -encompassing collections, our artists put out some truly impressive products. We couldn’t help but to share about the success we saw, so we crunched the numbers and rounded up our best-selling box sets of 2019.

5. Pink Floyd – Pink Floyd The Later Years 18-disc Box Set
The Pink Floyd The Later Years 18-disc Box Set includes 5 CDs, 6 Blu-Ray discs, 5 DVDs, 2 exclusive photo books and memorabilia covering the material created by David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright from 1987 onward. The period generated record sales of over 40 million worldwide and included three studio albums: ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason’, ‘The Division Bell’ and ‘The Endless River’ as well as two live albums: ‘Delicate Sound of Thunder’ and ‘Pulse’. With additional production from David Gilmour and Andy Jackson, over 13 hours of unreleased audio and audiovisual material, including the sought-after 1989 Venice and 1990 Knebworth concerts is also included.
4. The Beatles – Abbey Road Super Deluxe Edition 4-disc Set
Abbey Road’s Super Deluxe box set contains 40 tracks on 3 CDs and 1 Blu-ray disc. The 4 discs are housed in a slip-sleeved 12” by 12” 100-page hardbound book with McCartney’s foreword; Martin’s introduction; insightful, in-depth chapters written by Beatles historian, author, and radio producer Kevin Howlett covering the months preceding The Beatles’ Abbey Road sessions, track-by-track details and session notes, the cover art and photo shoot, and the album’s reception upon its release; plus an essay by music journalist and author David Hepworth looking at the album’s influence through 50 years. The gorgeous book is illustrated with rare and previously unpublished photographs, including many taken by Linda McCartney; never before published images of handwritten lyrics, sketches, and a George Martin score; Beatles correspondence, recording sheets, and tape boxes; and reproduced original print ads.
3. Bob Dylan – The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings 14-CD Box Set
A comprehensive anthology of music from the mythic first leg of Bob Dylan’s groundbreaking Rolling Thunder Revue, this 14-CD box set includes all 5 of Dylan’s full sets from that tour that were professionally recorded. The collection also provides the listener with an intimate insider’s seat for recently unearthed rehearsals at New York’s S.I.R. studios and the Seacrest Mote in Falmouth, MA plus a bonus disc showcasing one-of-a-kind performances from the tour.
2. Jerry Garcia Band – Electric on the Eel 6-CD Set
Electric on the Eel celebrates the Jerry Garcia Band’s 3 beloved, biannual performances at French’s Camp on the Eel River in Piercy, CA: August 29, 1987; June 10, 1989; and August 10, 1991. The collection features several unreleased rarities including the seldom performed “See What Love Can Do”, “Twilight”, “Lazy Bones”, and “I Hope It Won’t Be This Way Always.” Other rarities from the release include “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love”, “Struggling Man”, “Lay Down Sally” and “You Never Can Tell [C’est La Vie]”.
1. Ozzy Osbourne – See You On The Other Side Limited Edition Autographed & Numbered Vinyl Box Set
The complete vinyl works of Ozzy Osbourne’s original solo material in a Limited Edition & Numbered Vinyl Box Set. Released on November 29, 2019, this epic set includes 16 albums on 24 unique hand-pressed splatter-vinyl LPs, many albums previously unavailable and out of print on vinyl including the new compilation “Flippin’ the B-Side”, an exclusive flexi-disc featuring a never-before-released demo of “See You On The Other Side”, an individually numbered vellum certificate of authenticity personally autographed by Ozzy Osbourne, 10 full size 24” x 36” posters with vintage photos, and multiple augmented reality triggers that lead to rare live performances and exclusive video content.
