In the Intern Spotlight blog series, Musictoday’s summer interns reflect on their experiences working for the company.
My name is Kelsey and I’m a summer marketing intern here at Musictoday. As a recent college graduate with a degree in English and Media Studies, the world of e-commerce marketing is entirely new to me. So far this internship has been somewhat of a crash course on different marketing practices and tools.
My projects vary from week to week. I have assisted in running sweepstakes, created content blocks to aid in search engine optimization for different online stores, and conducted interviews with employees for the corporate website, just to name a few tasks. Lately one of my primary focuses has been creating email campaigns for clients promoting their top-rated products. This entails sifting through stores for their best-selling, favorably reviewed items and then compiling a variety of reviews that will then go into an email to send out to customers. This task has allowed me to familiarize myself with Google Analytics and learn how to do some simple coding.
Taking the time to interact with and learn about the many distinct moving parts of Musictoday has helped me gain a better understanding of how the company functions as a whole.
Throughout my past two months here, I have had exposure to several different facets of Musictoday. I have been fortunate to receive lessons from coworkers in the marketing department on a vast number of topics including affiliate marketing, Google Analytics, search engine optimization, email marketing, and much more. I have also had info sessions with employees who work in client services, transportation, creative, and business development. A few weeks ago interns were even recruited to sort and identify incoming products in the warehouse. Taking the time to interact with and learn about the many distinct moving parts of Musictoday has helped me gain a better understanding of how the company functions as a whole.
Another aspect of Musictoday that I have enjoyed is the company culture. Everyone in the office has been friendly and supportive and the work environment is relaxed, yet energetic. I love that employees often rep their favorite bands and shows by sporting t-shirts from the staff store, and that office dogs are welcome. In all this has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to learning more over the course of my time here.
