Still Rocking the Cradle: Billy Idol Resurfaces
Buzz Date: March 14, 2001

The man needs no introduction. A musical mainstay in the '80s and an occasional actor (don't hold his appearance in Andrew Dice Clay's The Adventures of Ford Fairlane against him), Billy Idol is a name familiar to all. In what is nothing less than a pure surprise, the man who brought the world hits like "Rebel Yell," "White Wedding," Cradle of Love," and his remake of "Mony Mony," among others, has just announced a short promotional tour on the heels of an upcoming greatest hits release. Billy Idol tackles the East Coast for four shows, beginning April 14 at the Trump Marina in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and ending April 20 at Foxwoods Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut. After the short stint, Idol stops by "Late Night with David Letterman" for an on-air appearance to be televised April 23.

Save for a random appearance in Adam Sandler's The Wedding Singer, Idol has laid low for most of the past decade. After a disastrous outing with 1993's Cyberpunk—an album that included an uninspired, techno-influenced cover of the Velvet Underground's "Heroin"—the industry and fans alike turned on him. While Billy Idol may not be creating new material at the moment, it is impossible to deny the impact he has had on popular music. His upcoming live outing should be chock full of Idol's biggest hits, and people should certainly come out to see a spectacle like that.
